Welcome to the Kickoff of the DBTH month-long 2011 College Football Preview! We know college football is upon us when the Vegas and off-shore sports books release their odds for the upcoming season.  My favorites are always the over/under win totals for teams.  The odds used for this article come from bookmaker.com, courtesy of meatandpotatoes.com.  Odds have been released for the following 41 teams:

Sure Money:   These are the best plays on the board,sure to make you some money at a higher return.

Texas OVER 8.5, +130:  To me, this is the strongest play on the board, and quite the value at +130.  Texas should go back to being Texas this year, and should be favored in 10 out of 12 games (Oklahoma in Dallas and @Texas A&M being the exceptions).  Oklahoma State comes to Austin and hasn't lost to Missouri under Mack Brown.  Last season was the only one in the past 10 that Texas didn't win 9 or more games. HUGE VALUE HERE!

Georgia OVER 8.5, -105:  This is another great play, as Georgia dodges Alabama, LSU and Arkansas from the SEC West.  Their toughest road games are at Tennessee and Georgia Tech, plus the neutral site game against Florida.  The only way Georgia doesn't win 9 is if they lose the first two to Boise and South Carolina.    

Strong Plays:  These plays will make you some money, but you'll have to pony up to win!
Alabama OVER 10, -155:  Just like a blue-chip stock, this is a low-risk, low-reward play.  Having to lay $155 for the potential to gain $100 doesn't seem like a great play, but you're going to win that $100 anyway, right?  The Tide will be favored in all 12 games and have a dominating defense, which helps relieve any qualms about the QB situation.  They get LSU and Arkansas at home, with road games against Penn State, Florida and Mississippi State on the docket.  I think they win 10 at the least, which makes a push the worst case scenario.

Clemson OVER 7, -145:  Again, this line seems like a sure bet, and would've made that section here if not for the poor odds.  Consecutive games against Florida State and Virginia Tech will be tough as well as a trip to South Carolina, but even if they lose all of those, they have to lose 2 more just to push.

Higher Risk Plays:   I feel strong about these, just not as certain as the picks above.
Notre Dame OVER 9, +105:  Without considering the recent past, this is a VERY strong play.  I almost put this in the "Sure Money" column, but Notre Dame has underachieved for years now.  There is always something magical about a coach's second season, and there is a high potential for Brian Kelly to lead the Irish to a 10+ win season.

South Carolina UNDER 9, +105:  This is a play that factors in recent history.  The Gamecocks had a breakout season last year, reaching the SEC Championship Game for the first time.  Carolina has only 4 true road games, but all four are potential losses (Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State).  The Gamecocks have only 1 win in 15 tries in Knoxville.  I went back and forth over this pick, but considering the fact that they usually find a way to lose a game they shouldn't, South Carolina will have a hard time reaching 9 wins, much less the 10 require to lose this bet.
