The Official DBTH Name Gene Chizik's Book Contest! Enter Here!

I was reading an article this weekend about the FBI investigation of some Auburn boosters when I ran across an advertisement for a book co-authored by Gene Chizik named "All In: What It Takes To Be The Best."

I have a few questions about this book that need to be answered:

Why would anyone want advice from Gene Chizik?  Didn't he win four games in two years at Iowa State?

Will this book be found in the Fiction section at Barnes and Noble?

Since Auburn fans will be the only people buying this book, will it be a coloring book?

Will the cover price be $180,000?

Here's the good part for you readers:  I will be holding the first-ever contest here at DBTH, and it will be to come up with a better title for Chizik's book.  The format will be as such:

Each entry will need to be in the following format:  All In: you title here
Example:  All In:  How to Buy a National Championship

Each person may enter up to three title entries for the next two weeks, and the contest winner will be decided by DBTH writers.

Here's the good part.  The winner will receive a free book with advice from a real coach, John Wooden.
The winner will receive a copy of Wooden's last book "The Wisdom of Wooden: My Century On And Off The Court."

You can enter by commenting in this blog post, or by leaving your title in the comment box at the bottom of the site.  Please leave your name as well, if you are not logged into an account when you enter.  Good luck and be creative!

It Seems Like I'm Hating on Auburn, But They Make it So Easy!

It's a Get Well Card, er, Toilet Paper Roll For a Tree!
Since the Cam Newton saga broke last year, I've been accused of being an Auburn hater.  I'm not an Auburn hater, rather a lover of justice, which has yet to be handed down to Auburn.  It might finally come in the form of Chaz Ramsey meeting with the NCAA, however (That Story Here).  But I doubt it.

Back to the task at hand, though, making fun of Tiger Nation.  After Harvey Updike poisoned the Toomer's Corner trees, an outpouring of love was shown for the dying trees, and they were even the stars of their own candlelight vigil.  During this vigil, many items were laid at the bases of the trees as relics or mementos.

Here's the great part:  According to this article  http://bit.ly/govXFe the Auburn Library is collecting these "artifacts", some are pictured above, for an exhibit to "preserve this trying chapter in Auburn's history" for Tiger/War Eagle/Plainsmen faithful.  Really a toilet paper art exhibit?  Get well rolls for trees?  I'm laughing as I type this now!  Isn't toilet paper biodegradeable anyway?  How long will this historical archive last?  I guess I need to Google "How long does it take for toilet paper to decompose?" to find out.  In the words of the great John McEnroe:  You can't be serious!

I have tried my best to lay off Auburn here recently and with the exception of the article regarding the HBO special, I have.  But this takes the cake, an exhibit of hand-painted toilet paper and get well cards for trees.

REBUTTAL TO AUBURN FAN ARGUMENT:  I have to enclose this in each Auburn column I write to combat senseless logic.  If Georgia's beloved hedges were poisoned by a Tech fan, I'd be really mad.  I would want him to be arrested as well.  However, in no shape, form or fashion would I pay homage by writing get well cards, or poems to inanimate objects!  That's ridiculous.

I've heard the people in this video might be Auburn fans as well.  This is must see TV:  http://bit.ly/eFoLRN

Former Auburn Players Admit to Getting Paid: Who Knew?

This guy says he got money to play at Auburn.

For months I've been lectured by Auburn fans about the "facts" of the Cam Newton case, even though I believe very few people know the truth about what happened.  Auburn fans were quick to spin the details of the cover-up as "facts".  It appears as though we may finally have some real "facts" as to the integrity of the Auburn football program.

According to a HBO Real Sports interview, four former players have admitted to receiving money before and during their time at Auburn.  These ranged from "money handshakes" to rewards for performance to money for cars.  You can read the transcript of the show here:  http://bit.ly/eLLG2K  if you missed the show.

It will be interesting to see if the NCAA will investigate this matter, since they have yet to make a comment related to the report.  This reminds me of when Tony Cole blew the whistle on the Harricks while at Georgia, after he was wired money by Jim Harrick Jr. to help pay bills.  There was an investigation and penalties were handed down in that case by the NCAA.

I don't know why these four players would come forward now, but my guess is that the truth, or for Auburn fans the "facts", will set you free.  The rest of the college football world has a glimmer of hope today that justice might actually be served for Auburn's repeated disregard for NCAA policy.  (Insert Auburn fan's argument here about other programs' secondary infractions being the same as their lack of institutional control and failure to promote an atmoshpere of compliance, two of the major NCAA infractions.)

The sad thing is in the end, it's these same Auburn fans who will pay the ultimate price if justice is served.  They are just defending their program as any fan would, but once all the real "facts" are done rearing their ugly head, will they even have a team worth rooting for?

How do you feel about these allegations?  Are you happy, relieved, disgusted?  Let us know!
